There is an old story about a retired train engineer from days long past. He ran a steam engine, and when the last of its kind was retired so was he. Years passed and the old engineer was all but forgotten. One day the owners of an aging factory experienced a failure of the machine that drove their main line. Their maintenance department tried everything no no avail. The technology was just too old to fix. The foreman made the connection that this design was similar to old steam engines, and a call was placed to the old engineer to help. When he arrived, he examined the machine slowly and thoroughly. He went to his tool bag and took out a single brass hammer. He walked over placed his hand on the machine in a seemingly random location, and hit it with the hammer. To everyone's surprise the machine fired right up.
When the foreman asked how much the repair would cost the old engineer said "that will be $10,000". The foreman was floored. He said "I saw what you did. I saw how long it took you. I am going to need an itemized bill to justify that cost!" Two weeks later he received the invoice. The invoice had two items: 1. Rental of specialty brass hammer for one swing $5.00; 2. Knowing exactly where to hit it on that swing $9995.00. The foreman promptly paid the invoice.
